What’s Holding You Back? | The Power of Faith and Friends
When it comes to walking in faith, the journey is always better with friends. Life has a way of testing our patience and trust, but with the right people by our side, we can face any challenge with renewed strength. When you surround ourselves with people who share your faith and support your goals, you can experience a deeper connection to God and within your friendships.
Courage comes from community
Sometimes, your faith might feel weak, but your friends’ faith can lift you up. In Mark 2:3-4, you’ll find the story of four friends who went above and beyond to bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus. “They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus.” This story shows how crucial it is to have people who will not let you give up when you're too weak to fight on your own. The right friends will help you keep going when you can’t find the strength to move forward.
Healthy community takes time
Community doesn’t happen by accident—it requires intentional effort. Proverbs 18:1 says, “A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.” God created us for connection, and the right friendships help sharpen and refine our faith. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Don’t let yourself fall into isolation. Invest in relationships that help you grow closer to God and build lasting faith.
The right community makes you better
Faith is not meant to be a solo journey. As Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another.” We are called to build each other up, not only for our own benefit but for the benefit of others as well. The right community will help you stay focused on God, walk in His timing, and encourage you when you need it most. If you have not found a healthy community to grow, try out a Courageous small group.
Faith Grows Stronger Together
Faith was never meant to be a solo act. As you go through life, the people you choose to surround yourself with can shape your faith and help you take steps closer to God’s promises. So, ask yourself this: Am I walking in faith with friends who will support, challenge, and encourage me? If not, now is the time to build those relationships. God’s promises are made even stronger in the company of those who also believe in what He says.
