Why Bold Faith Isn’t Boring
When you think of church, the first word that comes to mind could be “boring." Safe. Standard. People, but no “life”. But God never intended His church to be dull.
Faith was never meant to be lukewarm. Jesus didn’t “kind of” sacrifice, and He didn’t “sort of” rise again. He gave everything. That’s what makes faith so different. It’s not just “hopeful belief”, it’s going all in. It’s about bringing your whole self: your personality, your gifts, your passions into worship, into community, and into serving others.
The Bible says this: “For zeal for your house has consumed me” (Psalm 69:9 ESV). Authentic faith has passion behind it. It doesn’t check out or go through the motions. Bold faith shows up with joy and expectation.
But bold doesn’t mean “doing the most” just because you can. It’s not about personalities competing or trying to outdo another person. It’s about the church coming together like a family cookout, not a fancy restaurant. In a restaurant, you’re served by a few and then leave. At a cookout, everyone brings something to the table, and the laughter, stories, and connections last long after the meal is over. That’s the kind of bold faith God calls us into—a faith that includes every voice, every gift, every person.
The instruction to Jesus followers is this: “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord” (Romans 12:11 ESV). That word “fervent” literally means “boiling over.” Bold faith overflows with joy. It’s not a chore, it’s the good stuff.
Boring faith isn’t harmless—it’s dangerous.
It loses passion, forgets God, and drifts into a lukewarm living that changes nothing. Bold faith, on the other hand, can’t be ignored. It risks more, loves harder, and refuses to go unnoticed.
So maybe the better question is this: are you settling for safe, or stepping into bold? Faith doesn’t need to look perfect or polished—it needs to be real, alive, and full of the personality God gave you.
